The Moran Company is pleased to partner with Delmarva Community Services, Inc. in their search for a new President/CEO.

Background

Delmarva Community Services, Inc. is seeking a President/CEO to replace their longtime incumbent.

Delmarva Community Services, Inc. (DCS) was established and incorporated in 1974 as the Dorchester Developmental Unit (DDU) to address the needs of adult individuals with disabilities. The program initially consisted of three staff providing day services to fifteen individuals. Today the organization has expanded and is an umbrella organization providing a variety of programs for the entire community. DCS is a multi-service, non-profit agency whose mission is to help people on the Delmarva Peninsula who wish to maintain dignity and an independent lifestyle within their community.

Delmarva Community Services has a budget of 19 million, serves over 1,000 people and has over 300 staff. The organization has facilities located in Cambridge, Hurlock, Denton, Easton, and Chestertown, Maryland, and provides transportation services in Maryland.

Services provided include services for individuals with developmental disabilities (residential, day and vocational services and respite care); senior services (local senior centers, congregant and home delivered meals, a community action agency serving people living with poverty (homeownership and foreclosure counseling, tax preparation, food pantry and housing coordination), transportation and mobility services in 4 counties, and housing and community development.

Responsibilities

The President/CEO serves as Chief Executive of Delmarva Community Services Inc. (DCS) and in partnership with the Board, is responsible for the success of DCS. The President/CEO ensures DCS relevance to the community, and champions the DCS mission and vision, defines the vision, charts the direction, and drives results of the organization. The President/CEO manages the organization, stewards its resources, and provides accountability of DCS to its individuals served, staff, funding, and government agencies.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in social work, human services management, business administration, or related degree preferred.
  • A seasoned nonprofit executive with eight years of progressively responsible management experience with prior operations and program development experience.
  • An affinity for the mission of caring for individuals who are developmentally disabled, seniors and people who are living in poverty.
  • Demonstrated program experience with persons with intellectual disabilities, seniors and/or people living in poverty preferred.
  • Ability to establish collaborative partnerships with affiliated organizations.
  • Ability to assemble a strong leadership team and allow staff input into decision making.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, including listening to and communicating with diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to make effective decisions in difficult and complex situations; open to receiving and integrating feedback.
  • Demonstrated leader of high personal and professional integrity, who is sensitive and committed to maintaining and enriching DCS mission, values, and culture.
  • Skilled people manager and team builder. Ability to foster strong collaborative teams and actively engage with staff. Will maintain DCS positive working environment and family atmosphere.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with the community including public funders, civic leaders, charitable agencies, fundraising sources, and donors. Ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships.
  • Ability to maintain and strengthen collaborative partnerships with affiliated organizations.
  • The ability to successfully adapt to a rapidly changing environment and circumstances. Change agent – effective leadership with the ability to “bring others along.” Can motivate and influence individuals and groups.
  • Strong advocacy skills. The ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of government. An understanding of the public delivery systems, issues, and regulations that affect vulnerable populations.
  • Possess a history of achieving goals, improving bottom line performance, and growing the organization; a history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, task facilitation, without micromanaging key managers.
  • Solid budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • Ability to successfully manage conflict and adversity.

The President/CEO will need to relocate to the Mid Shore Area surrounding Cambridge, MD. Cambridge is a small city in the state of Maryland which is located in the county of Dorchester. Living in Cambridge has a suburban feel, which can be nice for families looking for more space than larger densely packed cities and is a good area to raise children. In addition to the public school system, there are private school systems within a 25-mile radius from Cambridge that offer a candidate options for educating their children.

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this individual is $150,000 to $175,000. Compensation is supplemented by a strong benefits package, including medical insurance, vacation, and paid holidays, Safe Harbor Basic Matching Contribution. In order to maintain “Safe Harbor” status, your Employer will make a safe harbor matching contribution equal to 100% of your salary deferrals that do not exceed 3% of your compensation plus 50% of our salary deferrals between 3% and 5% of your compensation. The safe harbor matching contributions are 100% vested.
